What this support looks like

Semi-independent living skills services help a person develop and practice the skills needed to live as independently as possible. Support is typically delivered in the person's home and emphasizes everyday competence — cooking, cleaning, money, appointments, safety, and problem-solving.

Examples of daily activities

  • Cooking a simple, safe meal and cleaning up afterward
  • Learning to budget, pay bills, and manage a bank account
  • Keeping a living space clean and organized
  • Scheduling appointments and arranging transportation
  • Practicing safety skills, including what to do in an emergency

These are illustrations, not a fixed list. Support is planned with the person and may differ from what's shown here.

Person-centered benefits

  • Practical skills the person can use without support later
  • Greater confidence in managing a household
  • A clear picture of progress that can be reviewed with the team
  • Supports transitions toward more independent living
