Basic Support Services

Adult Companion Services

Companionship is not a small thing. It can be the difference between a day spent alone and a day that includes conversation, a shared interest, and somewhere to go.

What this support looks like

Adult companion services provide non-medical supervision, support, and companionship to a person in their home or in the community. A trained companion may spend time talking, doing activities together, supporting hobbies, or accompanying someone on errands and outings. Companion services focus on connection and social engagement rather than hands-on personal care or medical tasks.

Examples of daily activities

  • Sharing a meal or coffee and conversation at home
  • Working on a hobby together — puzzles, crafts, music, or gardening
  • Attending a community event, religious service, or senior center
  • Going for a walk or a drive to a favorite park
  • Grocery shopping or running errands together

These are illustrations, not a fixed list. Support is planned with the person and may differ from what's shown here.

Person-centered benefits

  • Reduces isolation and gives structure to the week
  • Families gain peace of mind knowing someone is checking in
  • Encourages continued engagement with interests and community
  • A trusted, consistent relationship rather than rotating strangers
